Frequently asked questions about SLI.
-
Which are the changes between SLI and redhat 7.3?
Try SLI and discover them by your own.
-
I have already installed SLI and used it, but now I have problems login in redhat 7.3. What's happening?
Applications configuration files are stored in your $HOME. Different versions of the same application usually differs in their configuration files. This is causing the annoying behavior.
-
From time to time I lost access to my files. What's happening?
If you get messages like... ls: my-file: Permission denied
You have lost your AFS token and must obtain a new one. You can use the klog command to get tokens.
-
Why my screensaver doesn't renew the AFS token?
The screen must be locked in order to renew the AFS token. The token is renewed when you enter the password. A screensaver without lock won't do it.
-
How I can setup the institute printers?
If you have installed by default, it should be already done.
-
The (here your favourite app) version is not the latest available. When it will arrive SLI?
Not yet. You must wait.
-
(here your favourite app) is not in SLI. Can you add it?
Sort answer: NO.
Long answer: If a real necessity of that software exists, is possible to study the possibility. But SLI is a distribution for the institute, not a custom distribution.
-
Trying to burn cd's with xcdroast I'm asked for the root password. What should I do?
/usr/bin/xcdroast is a link to consolehelper. You can run the real xcdroast directly. It is in: /usr/sbin/xcdroast
-
I have a powerpc. Can I install SLI?
No, unless that you want to play with emulators. There are only a few powerpc computers in the institute, and currently powerpc is not considered a priority.
