Frequently asked questions about SLI.

  1. Which are the changes between SLI and redhat 7.3?
Try SLI and discover them by your own.
  2. I have already installed SLI and used it, but now I have problems login in redhat 7.3. What's happening?
Applications configuration files are stored in your $HOME. Different versions of the same application usually differs in their configuration files. This is causing the annoying behavior.
  3. From time to time I lost access to my files. What's happening?
If you get messages like... ls: my-file: Permission denied
You have lost your AFS token and must obtain a new one. You can use the klog command to get tokens.
  4. Why my screensaver doesn't renew the AFS token?
The screen must be locked in order to renew the AFS token. The token is renewed when you enter the password. A screensaver without lock won't do it.
  5. How I can setup the institute printers?
If you have installed by default, it should be already done.
  6. The (here your favourite app) version is not the latest available. When it will arrive SLI?
    Not yet. You must wait.
  7. (here your favourite app) is not in SLI. Can you add it?
    Sort answer: NO.
Long answer: If a real necessity of that software exists, is possible to study the possibility. But SLI is a distribution for the institute, not a custom distribution.
  8. Trying to burn cd's with xcdroast I'm asked for the root password. What should I do?
/usr/bin/xcdroast is a link to consolehelper. You can run the real xcdroast directly. It is in: /usr/sbin/xcdroast
  9. I have a powerpc. Can I install SLI?
No, unless that you want to play with emulators. There are only a few powerpc computers in the institute, and currently powerpc is not considered a priority.
  10. This section doesn't solve my question(s). What should I do?
    Send your questions to: linux.support@ific.uv.es.
We will try to solve them and maybe include in this section.
