Reaching IFIC

September 14, 2012 For Visitors

IFIC is located in the Paterna branch of the Burjassot-Paterna Campus, one of the three campuses of the University of Valencia.  It is served by line 4 of Valencia's tram, integrated into the metro. Here is an IFIC-site Google map of the site  with relevant tram stops indicated in purple and red. The first one, called Vicent Andres Estellés, serves the  Facultad de Fisica at the Burjasot Campus. This is where part of our institute is located, and where undergraduate teaching takes place. The next tram stop, called TVV, indicated in red, serves the Paterna campus (indicated in green) where the main IFIC administration offices, experimental Halls, computing center and the AHEP site are located.

Reaching the IFIC-UV site from Manises airport :

From Valencia's airport you can reach the IFIC-UV site at normal working hours by taxi in 10 minutes (approximate price, 15 euros). Map

The airport is served also by the metro (here is a map), which can be very convenient for reaching the city center, train station, port as well as all the various campuses in Valencia. Note that is is a bit slow to reach our Burjassot-Paterna science campus by metro from the airport hence, if you are in a hurry we recommend the taxi.

Reaching the IFIC-UV site from Valencia's main train station (map):

In order to reach the IFIC-UV site from Valencia's main train station (Estacion del Nord, just two blocks below "Plaza del Ayuntamiento"), you may use the metro at Estacion Xativa (red line) or either Estacion Plaza de Espana or Estacion Angel Guimera (orange line) on this metro-tram map. Note that you must change (at Empalme Station ) from metro to tram (blue line on map), and stop at TVV station. Alternatively, you may take bus 63 at Calle Bailen, but note that this bus does not run on weekends nor university holidays. See also Public buses in Valencia

By bus you get off at the Burjasot campus (finaly stop) and should proceed straight from one of the two green dots indicated on the following the red line indicated on this map, past the roundabout, following the tram track to the IFIC site. By tram you should get off slightly later, at the TVV stop, just in front of Valencia's local TV headquarters (Canal Nou) and walk 5 minutes. Our building is a red brick building where you can see a clear indication on it UNIVERSITAT DE VALENCIA (left side) and CONSEJO SUPERIOR DE INVESTIGACIONES (right side)

Reaching the IFIC-UV site from Valencia's intercity bus station:

In order to reach the IFIC-UV site from Valencia's bus station the best is to take bus 63 at Avenida Pio XII, just in from of Centro Comercial Nuevo Centro. If you use the metro you start at the Turia station (orange line) and change at Empalme Station to the tram (blue) line shown on the map, as before.

If you are driving, this road map will help you reach the Burjassot-Paterna Campus. To help plan your trip you may consider this link : rumbo.

Some Recent and Current AHEP Grants

  • We were part of ILIAS/N6 on European Network of Theoretical Astroparticle Physics (Contract Number RII3-CT-2004-506222).
  • We have hosted the European Commission Research Training Site aimed at training undergraduate students engaged in their PhD Thesis on Particle Physics Beyond the Standard Model (Contract Number HPMT-2000-00124). This recognizes the group's excellence experience in the early stage training of young scientists.
  • We have coordinated the European Science Foundation aimed at fostering the collaboration on neutrino physics and astrophysics.
  • We had the support from private foundations, such as Santander BBVA and Iberdrola, who has selected our Group as the recipient of their prestigious excellence award grant.
  • The AHEP Group offers a Santiago Grisolía Fellowship in one of our research lines, which cover theoretical, phenomenological and observational aspects of Astroparticle and High Energy Physics. Further information can be found here. . Deadline:

UNILHC 2012 : 2nd ITN School on Unification in the era of LHC

September 13, 2012 Conferences

The main topic of the school is the theoretical interpretation of results coming from LHC (Large Hadron Collider) as well as experimental data from neutrino physics, dark matter searches and other observations. The aim is to identify the physics Beyond the Standard Model of strong, weak and electromagnetic forces and ultimately to provide a fully unified description of the fundamental states of matter and their interactions. Basic topics of investigation are the nature of electroweak symmetry breaking, the origin of masses and their hierarchies and the quantization of the gravitational interaction. The methodology is based on three main ingredients: Symmetry, including supersymmetry and symmetries related to flavor, string unification and new space dimensions. The school focus will be the important role of new physics searches at the LHC as well as the impact of neutrino oscillation data and cosmological observations. It is hoped that the school will make a significant contribution to the training of young European researchers in this area of fundamental science.

Abstract
We analyze the interplay between the Higgs to diphoton rate and
electroweak precision measurements contraints in extensions of the
Standard Model with new uncolored charged fermions that do not mix
with the ordinary ones. We also compute the pair production cross
sections for the lightest fermion and compare them with current
bounds.
