Session on the 50th Anniversary of CERN

On 29 September 1954, representatives of the twelve founding Member States of CERN ratified the Organization´s convention, paving the way for the establishment of the world's leading fundamental physics research institution. The lectures in this session will review some of CERN's scientific achievements, its impact on science and society and will give a glimpse into the future.

Highlights of Spanish Particle Physics

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the re-entry of Spain to CERN (November 1983), this session intends to gather, in an informal way, some views on the development of the Spanish HEP community since that event, with an emphasis on the role played by CERN in such a development. The speakers are some of the Spanish scientists who have had an outstanding role in scientific and managerial aspects of Spanish Particle Physics (they are by no means the only ones on the roll). There is no attempt to cover all aspects of our relations with CERN nor to analyze all the important progress made in those 20 years. The goal is just to have a direct impression -historical or otherwise- from the speakers in a few short presentations, from which to gain some insight on the past, present and future of our field in Spain.

Chairman: Domènec Espriu (UB)

"Introductory words"

D. Espriu (UB)

"CERN and Spanish Science in the 60's and 70's"

F. J Ynduráin (UAM)
