Resumen
The Standard Model is incredibly successful, yet one piece of it, the Higgs boson, has never been seen. Furthermore the mechanism for the Higgs to give masses to the other particles has serious problems. After reviewing this situation I will discuss some alternative scenarios that do not rely on the existence of a Higgs boson. I will discuss two different approaches; one using extra dimensions and one relying on magnetic monopoles.
